SAN MERCADO PART OF SHOP SMALL SATURDAY LINEUP
San Marcos’ only downtown, monthly, community market – the Price Center’s San Mercado – will offer a rare second opportunity to shop in November as part of the Shop Small Saturday lineup in downtown San Marcos this Saturday, Nov. 28 from 9 -2. New and returning pop-up vendors, live music, a new pop-up outdoor art show, and lots of great, affordable holiday decorating and gift giving items will be featured.
“San Mercado is a great way to shop small and local,” said Clay DeStefano, executive director. “From handmade and homemade creations items to affordable, small scale retail and resale, purchases made at Mercado all support small, local businesses, including the Price Center,” he added.
Participating San Mercado vendors will be set up in the Price Center’s Garden and indoor venues from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., local musician Gary Taylor will provide his live acoustic guitar and vocal styling from 10:30 -1:30, and shoppers will have access to the Center’s new SHOP 1893 resale store, featuring lots of different merchandise – many with specially discounted prices for the day!
Local photographer Cristopher Paul Cardoza will present the latest installment of his traveling show “A Time of Change,” featuring intimate portraits of locals, throughout the Garden. Cardoza will also be taking free portraits to add the show during the event in the 1910 Room.
Several returning Mercado vendors will be joined by new vendors, including one with chocolates, another with CBD products, and members of Bee Friends who will be selling holiday-inspired, quilts, decorative panels, table runners, stockings, and other fabric art.
Shop Small downtown activities will also include the San Marcos Farmers Market (9-1) and the San Marco Art League’s Art Squared (9-4), which both take place on the Historic Courthouse Square, a short walk from the Center. Each event will feature live musical entertainment and COVID-safe precautions, including required mask wearing by all vendors and shoppers and outdoor and indoor vendors spaced safely apart.
Admission to San Mercado is free and open to all. Mask wearing and other COVID-safe practices will be enforced. A limited number of vendor spaces are still available for $20 outdoor, $30 indoor. The monthly market is made possible in part through grant funds from the San Marcos Arts Commission. Proceeds from booth rentals benefit the Price Center, which is operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association (GSMASA), a 501 (c) 3 non-profit.
