'IMAGINE' MARKS 4OTH ART EXHIBIT IN PRICE CENTER COMMUNITY ART GALLERY
The newest gallery show at the Price Center – Imagine: A Chance to Dream – marks the 40th unique art exhibit to hang in the community gallery space since opening in 2017. In that time, more than 500 individual artists have been featured in the gallery in one or more of the shows created, curated, and coordinated by the Price Center Arts Committee.
“Working with my fellow volunteers on the Arts Committee has been a gratifying experience, said Joan Nagel, Chair of the Committee. “It’s a privilege to help foster creativity in others; we challenge them to create art inspired by themes the committee chooses and then offer them a place to display their art for the community to see,” she added.
While most exhibiting artists live in San Marcos, numerous regular participants live in Wimberly, New Braunfels, Canyon Lake, Seguin, Austin, San Antonio, and even Houston.
“Many artists now enter multiple shows in a year, and it’s been rewarding to hear their stories, see their artwork develop, and hang their shows,” she added.
The Arts Committee also oversees additional pop-up displays, programs, and activities each year, including community art projects and performing arts presentations. Additional members serving with Nagel since 2017 are Margaret Adie, Garrie Borden, Clay DeStefano, and Tracy Weinberg.
Imagine: A Chance to Dream features 81 inspired new works of art by 70 area artists (ten of whom are new to the Price Center). The first show of the new year provides a thoughtful, colorful, and magical look into the hearts and minds of the submitting artists. The playful and inspiring exhibit on display throughout the first-floor galleries of the Price Center features various subjects, media, and techniques – traditional and non – through February 22. Many works are for sale. All proceeds benefit the art gallery and ongoing arts programming at the Center.
The Public Reception for Imagine is set for Wednesday, Feb. 5, from 6-8 p.m. Refreshments, live music, and a chance to meet many exhibiting artists are featured. The come-and-go reception is free and open to all. The Brown Bag Artists Luncheon for artists participating in the show is a round-table discussion in which each artist has 5 minutes to share their creative process and inspiration for their piece in the show. The Brown Bag for Imagine will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12 from 11:30 – 1. It's only open to participating artists and an RSVP is required.
The art gallery at the Price Center has been named Best Art Gallery in the annual Best of Hays contest several times and was recognized in 2023 by Glasstire magazine for hosting one of the 10 best art exhibits in Texas.
