AQUARENA SPRINGS SYMPHONIC BAND TO PERFORM HALLOWEEN AFTERNOON AT PRICE CENTER
The Aquarena Springs Symphonic Band (ASSB) will return to the Price Center’s 1910 Room stage this Halloween via a fundraising performance at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31. Music of the Night will feature the 30-piece community band performing a selection of Halloween-inspired music. Dr. John Schmidt of Texas State University’s music department will be highlighted as guest pianist. Attendees are encouraged to come in costume as the event will include a costume contest for adults and kids. Treat bags will also be provided to children in attendance.
Various selections for the program include arrangements from WICKED, TOCATTA and FUGE in D MINOR, and PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Movie themes of DANNY ELFMAN will be performed as well as the ALFRED HITCHCOCK THEME, the ADDAMS FAMILY, a portion of A NIGHT ON BALD MOUNTAIN, along with slight taste of JAWS, and other Halloween flavored tunes.
Seating for the special performance is limited to 70. Reservations are required and a $10 per person donation is requested. Participation in the costume contest (both children and adults) requires a $5 entry fee. Interested participants will be judged by ASSB members and eligible to win a prize.
Music of the Night Is the fourth concert performance by ASSB at the Price Center this year. Musical director and conductor Michael Thielen curates a unique group of selections to celebrate the theme or season. Previous concerts included a celebration of Spring in May, A celebration of America in late June and a celebration of our Aquarena Springs during Mermaid Month on San Marcos.
ASSB is composed of volunteer musicians -- ranging in age from college students to working professionals to retirees -- with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and cultures, who share a desire to perform and develop beyond their school experiences. Musicians from each neighboring county, and throughout the hill country and beyond, are welcome to join.
Seats will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Call 512-392-2900 or email: info@price-center.org to reserve your seat.
