Celebrate Arts this Weekend with the Center
Celebrating the local arts and cultural scene is becoming easier and easier thanks to a variety of efforts throughout the downtown area, including those of the Price Center. This weekend, downtown visitors can take in a luncheon concert, an evening international dance festival, and the visual arts works of two solo artists, a quilting bee and a porcelain arts club.
“While October is National Arts and Cultural Month, we celebrate the arts and humanities everyday at the Price Center, said Clay DeStefano, Executive Director.
This Saturday, Noonday Cabaret, a new monthly collaboration between the Center and the Tri M Music Honor Society, offers a light lunch and light music for a $10 donation that benefits Hernandez Elementary School’s Music Program. The event takes place from Noon – 1 in the Center’s Tea Room.
At 7:30 p.m. that same night, in the Center’s historic 1910 Room, World Dance Showcase gets underway featuring a colorful visual and musical display of dance from around the World. A $5 donation is requested. All proceeds benefit three local charities.
Visitors to the Center at anytime can also take in the solo arts shows of local photographer Carl Deal and the oil painter Georgiana Chenault. Both shows will be up through the month of Nov. All works are available for purchase and a portion of the proceeds benefit the Price Center, a non-profit, community center operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association.
The Center also features a rotating display of quilts and porcelain arts created by separate clubs that meet and create there monthly. All visual arts shows are free and open to the public whenever the Center is open.
