Two Solo Art Shows Opening in Oct.
Two local artists, a photographer and an oil painter, are featured in upcoming solo art shows officially opening at the Price Center next month. Both shows, which provide intimate looks at nature, man and animals, will hang in the Center located at 222 W. San Antonio St. in downtown San Marcos throughout Oct. and Nov.
The first show features local photographer and raconteur Carl Deal who offers a striking assortment of 34 primarily black and white nature and portrait images from around the world and San Marcos. Deals’ work hangs in the Center’s Parlor and historic 1910 Room. An Opening Reception will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. on Sat., Oct.1.
The second show featuring painter Georgiana Chenault from Wimberley will open on Fri., Oct. 7 in the Center’s Tea Room. Chenault brings her expert hand and eye to a delightfully engaging series of large and small scale animal portraits painted on traditional canvases as well as unique natural surfaces including marble and other stone. The Opening Reception for that show will take place from 6-8 p.m. in the Tea Room.
“We could not be more pleased with these two shows being our inaugural displays for our new rotating community art gallery concept,” said Clay DeStefano, executive director. “The works truly make the unique spaces of the Center all the more appealing.“
The shows are free to view and open to the public Mon. - Fri. from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. each Sunday. All works in both shows are for sale and a portion of the proceeds benefit the Price Center, which is operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association (GSMASA), a 501 (c) 3 non-profit.
The rotating community art gallery is the latest expansion of public art displays at the Center that began last January with regular rotating displays of quilts and porcelain arts that are created at the Center by two separate clubs that meet there monthly.
