1893 FLEA DEBUTS JUNE 10 AT PRICE CENTER
Vendor and customer demand is driving the creation of 1893 Flea, a new monthly flea market taking place on Second Saturdays in downtown San Marcos at the Price Center. After two years of successful operation of Shop 1893, the indoor/outdoor monthly flea market is being created as a way to sell larger and clearance items, and give Shop 1893 vendors and community members a chance to sell at a monthly pop-up.
“Shop 1893 has been such an interesting journey so far,” said Clay DeStefano, Price Center executive director. “We started out selling off our excess donations of furniture, art, kitchen items and more as a means of survival during the early days of the COVID outbreak and it’s grown into a thriving little downtown retail establishment that accounted for 14% of our revenue in 2022, and now helps support 3-dozen local small entrepreneurs,” he added.
The first 1893 Flea will take place Saturday, June 10 from 10 am – 3 pm in the 1910 Room of the Price Center. Furniture and clearance items from the Price Center inventory and separate booths from several Shop 1893 vendors and members of the community will make from an eclectic indoor market. A limited number of tables are still available for $20. Call 512-392-2900 or stop by the Price Center to reserve a space.
Shop 1893 is a one-of-a-kind, two-story resale shop located in the 130-year-old original chapel structure at the Price Center. Three-dozen individual vendors offer an enticing mix of vintage, upcycled, and original creations as well as antiques, maker supplies, and items donated directly to the Center for resale. All proceeds benefit the ongoing operations of the Price Center. The Shop is open W-F, noon-5; Sat., 10-3. Gently used donated items are always welcome.
